Capitalism Is Not A Four Letter Word
Only a free market of consumers can get our economy out of the doldrums.

Note: A debt to the book Capitalism: Why Free People and Free Markets Are The Best Answer In Today's Economy by Steve Forbes and Elizabeth Ames is acknowledged.

More and more this nation is expecting our government to get the economy back on track.

It's not going to happen.

Not only is our government incapable of solving our economic mess, it's not their function anyway. All any government program - a rebate, a bailout or a jobs program - can do is provide a BandAid for an open wound. It does nothing to address why there's an open wound in the first place.

Friends, this country was built on capitalism. It was built on a government staying out of the way so people could be free to decide what goods and services their fellow citizens needed and to provide those goods and services for them. It's like one continuing, never-ending election, where people vote with their wallets.

Capitalism is the only way out of our current economic mess. Only a free market, with low taxes that foster an environment for innovation and expansion, will help this economy. All an interfering government can do is raise taxes that takes capital out of the economy for bailouts, jobs or redistribution programs that might, or might not, provide a one-time economic benefit but do not provide the foundation for long term growth.

Friends, capitalism is not just suits in corner offices making lots of money, although there are certainly enough of those. And the criminally greedy that we sometimes hear about are acknowledged, though it should be noted these are an extremely small part of the population. They are merely the ones who make news.

Friends, capitalism can also be put to work for you, because capitalism is the freedom to make something good happen for yourself and your family. It's the freedom to start your own business. Or, if that doesn't suit you, and it's not for everybody, to put your talents to work for you so you can exploit the free market to your advantage.

It is even the freedom to do none of those things. At it's core capitalism is the freedom to live your life as you see fit.

Want to make a pile of money? Some drive and hard work and you can do that. Do you prefer to live a more modest life? That's good, too. Money is an awesome master. Or so we've heard; we've never been burdened with a lot of money. Either way, you are free to put your talents to work for you to earn the living you feel comfortable with.

More than anything, capitalism is the freedom from government interference in our lives and the freedom to make something good happen for ourselves.

The Purpose Of Government
The purpose of government is to provide for the liberty of its citizens.

Our Financial Crisis
Our problems are both short and long term. Something must be done now.

Taxes
A flat tax is the best way to get this country moving again.

Our National Debt
Our annual deficit should be limited to two percent of our Gross Domestic Product.

Capitalism Is Not A Four Letter Word
Only a free market can get our economy out of the doldrums.

What About Boom And Bust Cycles?
Let's keep government from butting in and let our economy run its course.

Health Care
Let's make doctors and health insurers part of the free market.

Medicare And Social Security
Whether you agree with these programs or not, people worked hard for these benefits and we cannot back out of our deal with our citizens.

The Death Penalty
We've executed people for crimes they did not commit. This is wrong.

National Defense
Peace through strength...And staying out of everybody's hair.

Abortion
Probably as old as pregnancy itself, whether it is legal or not it is not going to go away.

Religion's Role In Our Government
Our government must respect our right to believe, or not, as we see fit. It must not cater to our individual beliefs.

Gun Control
We don't need a government permit to exercise our First Amendment rights, why do we need one to exercise our Second Amendment rights?

Drug Legalization
- What we do in our homes is our business, not the governments.
- If drugs were legal there would be a lot less violence because of them

HOMOSEXUALS IN THE ARMED FORCES
Homosexuals have been serving this country honorably since the Revolution.

HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE

Gays are people too

IMMIGRATION
As long as our standard of living is high and we do not turn this nation into a police state, we will always have to pay a price for illegal immigration.
