The Purpose Of Government
The purpose of government is to provide for the liberty of its citizens.

Every proposal and policy you will read here is based on the following proposition:

The purpose of government is to provide for the liberty of its citizens.

I say that a lot because I believe it: everything else government does - from providing for an army to operating parks and forests to conducting foreign affairs - is either ancillary to, or in support of, providing for our liberty.

Our government's main job is to ensure that our time is ours to with what we want.

It's not doing that right now. From a demoralizing tax code to a national debt and entitlement program burdens that will cause this country to implode if something's not done, to trying to run our economy through regulations and bailouts, to constant, partisan bickering, our government is failing us.

Government cannot be all things to all people. It cannot be in step with everyone's own, personal religious beliefs or moral code. It cannot provide for our individual financial security. It is not responsible for redistributing wealth so the wealthy have less and the not wealthy have more.

And really friends, deep down, do we really want that? Do we want our government to take care of us, or would we rather grab the bull by the horns and make something good happen for ourselves?

I'd rather make something good happen for myself.

Our greatest resource is the 24 hours everyday we all have. It is the only commodity every human being is issued in equal measure and to a large extent what we get out of this life is dependent on how we spend those 24 hours.  We must put those 24 hours to work for us so we can make our time serve us instead of merely serving time while on this planet.

By any measure this country is not humming on all cylinders. We are in a mess and it's easy to look at our current representatives, note how nothing seems to be changing, and blame them.

But that's wrong. The only place we have to look for blame is in our own mirror. For decades we have sent representatives back to Congress at about a 90 percent rate and this nation is still trillions of dollars in debt and our tax code is still a mess and our economy is about as broken as it's ever been.

The good news is since we are the problem we are also the solution. It's time for ordinary citizens like us take charge, to take an interest in our country and to take our country back.

It starts with us. Let's grab the bull by the horns and make something good happen for our country.

The Purpose Of Government
The purpose of government is to provide for the liberty of its citizens.

Our Financial Crisis
Our problems are both short and long term. Something must be done now.

Taxes
A flat tax is the best way to get this country moving again.

Our National Debt
Our annual deficit should be limited to two percent of our Gross Domestic Product.

Capitalism Is Not A Four Letter Word
Only a free market can get our economy out of the doldrums.

What About Boom And Bust Cycles?
Let's keep government from butting in and let our economy run its course.

Health Care
Let's make doctors and health insurers part of the free market.

Medicare And Social Security
Whether you agree with these programs or not, people worked hard for these benefits and we cannot back out of our deal with our citizens.

The Death Penalty
We've executed people for crimes they did not commit. This is wrong.

National Defense
Peace through strength...And staying out of everybody's hair.

Abortion
Probably as old as pregnancy itself, whether it is legal or not it is not going to go away.

Religion's Role In Our Government
Our government must respect our right to believe, or not, as we see fit. It must not cater to our individual beliefs.

Gun Control
We don't need a government permit to exercise our First Amendment rights, why do we need one to exercise our Second Amendment rights?

Drug Legalization
- What we do in our homes is our business, not the governments.
- If drugs were legal there would be a lot less violence because of them

HOMOSEXUALS IN THE ARMED FORCES
Homosexuals have been serving this country honorably since the Revolution.

HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE
Gays are people too

IMMIGRATION
As long as our standard of living is high and we do not turn this nation into a police state, we will always have to pay a price for illegal immigration.
